Role overview:
Lead day-to-day operations at open-cast and underground mining sites to ensure safe, efficient delivery of production targets and compliance with regulatory, environmental and company policies. Report to regional operations leadership and coordinate with engineering, safety, maintenance and procurement teams.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead site operations: plan, organize and supervise mining activities to achieve production schedules while controlling costs and resources.
- Health & safety stewardship: enforce and promote strict safety standards, conduct inspections, lead incident investigations and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Team management: supervise supervisors and crews, manage rostering, competency development and performance reviews.
- Operational planning: prepare short- and medium-term work plans, allocate equipment and materials and coordinate with maintenance to minimize downtime.
- Contractor management: manage multi-disciplinary teams, contractors and subcontractors; coach and develop supervisors.
- Reporting & stakeholder engagement: produce operational reports and present performance metrics to senior management; liaise with stakeholders as required.
Travel: role requires travel across project locations in Southern Africa.
Work mode & shift: On-site, Morning shift.
Salary: 4000 - 8000 USD (per month or as stated by employer).Job Specification:
- Proven site leadership in mining or heavy industrial operations with emphasis on production and safety performance.
- Mining operations knowledge: open-cast and/or underground, drilling, blasting, loading, hauling and ore-handling processes.
- Safety & compliance: strong understanding of occupational health, safety and environmental legislation applicable in South Africa and Southern Africa; skilled in incident investigation and risk assessment.
- Planning & cost control: competence in developing work plans, scheduling, resource allocation and basic cost-control techniques.
- Team & contractor management: experience managing multi-disciplinary teams, contractors and subcontractors; coaching and supervisor development.
- Maintenance coordination: familiarity with equipment-utilization optimization and maintenance coordination.
- Tools: basic mine-planning software or operational reporting tools.
- Communication: able to produce clear operational reports and present performance metrics to senior management.
