Summary of role:

• Support mining and industrial safety across opencast and underground sites from the Johannesburg operations hub.
• Promote a culture of safety, regulatory compliance and operational excellence across engineering, construction and operations teams.

Primary responsibilities:

• Conduct routine site inspections and safety audits across surface and underground work areas to identify hazards and ensure compliance with company and South African mining safety regulations.
• Develop, implement and monitor safe work procedures, risk assessments and method statements for high-risk activities.
• Investigate incidents and near misses; prepare accurate reports, determine root causes and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
• Deliver toolbox talks, safety briefings and induction training to contractors, supervisors and site personnel.
• Facilitate permit-to-work systems, emergency preparedness exercises and evacuation drills; coordinate with site leadership.

Job Specification: Must-have skills & experience:

• Diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Mining Engineering, or related field.
• NEBOSH National/International or equivalent mining safety certification.
• Minimum 23 years safety experience in mining or heavy industry, including opencast and/or underground operations.
• Practical knowledge of South African mining safety legislation, regulations and best practices.
• Experience conducting site safety inspections, hazard identification and risk assessments.
• Incident investigation and root-cause analysis experience; ability to produce corrective action plans.
• Experience delivering training, toolbox talks and inductions.
• Familiarity with permit-to-work systems, confined space entry, working at heights, and mobile equipment safety controls.
• Strong report writing, record keeping and safety KPI monitoring skills; proficiency with standard office tools.
• Physical fitness and willingness to work on operational sites, including underground and opencast areas; adherence to PPE requirements.
