Job Description: Company Overview:

Recruiting experienced Millwrights to support mining and industrial operations in Johannesburg and wider Southern Africa. Successful candidates will join multi-disciplinary teams responsible for maintaining production equipment in both open-cast and underground mining environments. This role emphasizes safety, reliability, and hands-on mechanical capability to minimize downtime and support continuous operations.

Key responsibilities:

  • Perform mechanical installation, alignment, repair and overhaul of heavy rotating equipment including conveyors, crushers, mills, pumps and gearboxes.
  • Dismantle and reassemble industrial machinery; carry out shaft, bearing and coupling replacements to manufacturer tolerances.
  • Conduct precision alignment using laser or dial indicators; set up machine foundations and mountings for safe operation.
  • Execute scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance tasks; interpret vibration and condition-monitoring data and recommend corrective actions.
  • Read and follow mechanical drawings, manuals and technical specifications; prepare work permits and complete maintenance reports.
  • Ensure strict compliance with site safety standards; participate in JSA/TO/permit-to-work processes and promote hazard awareness.
  • Collaborate with maintenance planners, electricians and multi-disciplinary teams to coordinate maintenance activities and minimize downtime.
Job Specification: Must-have skills and experience:

  • Trade certification or diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Millwrighting, Fitting & Turning, or equivalent technical apprenticeship.
  • Proven hands-on experience (min ~5 years) with heavy mining and industrial machinery: conveyors, crushers, mills, gearboxes and pumps.
  • Proficient in mechanical fitting, machining, shaft alignment, bearing replacement and coupling work.
  • Experience using precision alignment tools (laser alignment, dial indicators) and mechanical measuring equipment.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, parts lists, maintenance manuals and hydraulic/pneumatic schematics.
  • Familiarity with preventive and predictive maintenance regimes, vibration analysis basics and condition-based inspection techniques.
  • Competent in diagnosing mechanical failures, performing root-cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
  • Practical knowledge of plant isolation, lock-out/tag-out and permit-to-work procedures; strong safety mindset for underground and open-cast settings.
  • Good teamwork and communication skills; ability to coordinate with multi-disciplinary maintenance and operations teams.
