Crane Operator

Job Description: Company Overview:

Kadwa Inc. ZA is recruiting Crane Operators to join its Johannesburg-based mining and industrial operations teams for 2026. The role supports heavy lifting, material handling and rigging activities across open-cast and underground mining sites and associated construction works. Operators will work within multi-disciplinary maintenance and operations crews to move equipment and materials safely and efficiently, following strict site procedures and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate mobile cranes, crawler cranes, tower cranes and hydraulic lifting gear for routine and planned lifting operations.
• Perform pre-start checks and inspect lifting equipment, slings and rigging hardware; report defects and complete required documentation.
• Plan lifts in coordination with site supervisors and rigging teams, ensuring correct load calculations, center-of-gravity assessment and safe load paths.
• Coordinate with signalers, riggers and ground crew to execute lifts using standard hand signals and radio communication.
• Adhere to site safety protocols, permit-to-work systems and confined-space/underground safety requirements.
• Maintain disciplined record-keeping for lifts and handovers.
• Perform basic mechanical checks and report maintenance issues.

Job Specification:

• Must-have: Proven experience operating mobile, crawler or tower cranes in mining, construction or heavy industrial settings.
• Competent in pre-use inspections, load-chart interpretation and basic lift planning.
• Knowledge of rigging practices, slings, shackles, taglines and safe lifting techniques.
• Familiarity with permit-to-work, confined-space and height-safety procedures in mining environments.
• Ability to follow hand signals and radio instructions; proficient verbal communication in noisy conditions.
• Basic mechanical awareness to perform daily checks and report maintenance issues.
• Disciplined record-keeping and teamwork; punctuality and resilience for shift-based operations.
