About these numbers

Salaries below are compiled from job postings, industry surveys (Payscale, Glassdoor Pakistan chapter, the PSEB annual IT survey), and anonymized data shared by recruiters we've spoken to at Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad-based firms. Ranges reflect what you can realistically expect in 2026, not aspirational maxes. Amounts are gross monthly PKR unless noted otherwise.

1. Senior Software Engineer / Tech Lead — 500k to 1.5M+ PKR/month

Companies like Systems Ltd, VentureDive, Careem (post-acquisition), 10Pearls, and the Pakistan offices of Airlift-alumni startups pay top rates. Add another 30-50% if you work remote for a US or European company (10-20 lakh PKR is common). Requires: CS degree or strong self-taught portfolio, 5+ years shipping real products, expertise in one stack (React/Node, Python/ML, mobile), and strong English.

How to land it: Build a public GitHub portfolio with 2-3 non-trivial projects, contribute to open source, get to mid-level at a local firm first, then apply to remote-first companies through Toptal, Turing, or direct LinkedIn outreach.

2. Petroleum / Reservoir Engineer — 400k to 1M+ PKR/month

OGDCL, PPL, Mari Petroleum, and multinationals like Eni pay well, especially for field-based roles. Site allowances often double your base. Requires: BE/BS in Petroleum Engineering, ideally from NED, UET, or NUST, and willingness to work in remote field locations (Balochistan, Sindh).

How to land it: Target the annual OGDCL and PPL graduate trainee programs (openings on our Jobs page around March-April every year). Get certifications from SPE Pakistan chapter.

3. Medical Specialist (Consultant) — 300k to 1M+ PKR/month

Consultants at Aga Khan, Shifa International, Doctors Hospital, and Ziauddin can earn very well, particularly in cardiology, gynecology, orthopedics, and radiology. Private practice on top can double this. Requires: MBBS + FCPS/MRCP (5-8 years post-MBBS training).

How to land it: After MBBS, apply to competitive residency programs at CPSP-recognized institutions. Build a network during residency.

4. Product Manager (Tech) — 400k to 900k PKR/month

Emerging role. Careem, Bazaar, VisionX, Retailo, Krave Mart, and similar startups pay strongly for experienced PMs. Requires: 3+ years product experience, MBA is helpful but not required, strong analytical + communication skills.

How to land it: Move sideways from a related role (design, engineering, business analyst) into product. Take Reforge or Product School courses.

5. Data Scientist / ML Engineer — 350k to 900k PKR/month

Local employers: 10Pearls, Motive, Afiniti Pakistan, KeepTruckin Pakistan, plus fintech (JazzCash, Easypaisa). Higher for remote clients. Requires: MS in CS/Stats/Math or a strong applied portfolio, proficiency with Python + SQL + one ML framework (PyTorch or TensorFlow).

How to land it: Kaggle competitions, personal projects deployed on Streamlit, and cold outreach to hiring managers at ML-heavy companies.

6. Investment Banking Associate — 350k to 800k PKR/month

At Arif Habib, JS Bank Investment Banking, or the Karachi offices of foreign banks (Deutsche, Citi corporate). Bonuses add 40-100%. Requires: Business degree from IBA, LUMS, or top-tier foreign university; CFA Level 1+ helpful.

How to land it: Aim for the summer internship pipeline at IBA/LUMS in your penultimate year. Networking > applications for this field.

7. UX/UI Designer (Senior) — 250k to 700k PKR/month

VentureDive, VisionX, Airlift-alumni startups, and remote clients pay well for designers with a shipped-product portfolio. Requires: 4+ years of product design (not just marketing/social media graphics), strong Figma skills, evidence of design decisions that improved metrics.

How to land it: Publish detailed case studies on Behance or Medium. Contribute to open-source design systems.

8. Cybersecurity Engineer — 300k to 700k PKR/month

Banks (HBL, MCB, UBL), telcos (Jazz, PTCL), and specialized firms (Tranchulas, Rewterz) are hiring for SOC analysts, penetration testers, and compliance leads. Requires: CS degree, one industry certification (CEH, OSCP, CISSP, or CISM), 2-4 years hands-on experience.

How to land it: Complete HackTheBox challenges, contribute to bug-bounty programs (HackerOne), get OSCP-certified.

9. Chartered Accountant (Manager / Senior Manager) — 250k to 600k PKR/month

Big Four (PwC, EY, KPMG, Deloitte) Pakistan pays well for managers with 5-8 years post-articles experience. In-house senior finance roles at multinationals often pay more with better hours. Requires: CA qualification from ICAP (5-7 years).

How to land it: Complete articleship at a Big Four firm, then decide between practice and industry after qualifying.

10. DevOps / Cloud Engineer — 250k to 600k PKR/month

Every serious tech company needs one. Remote work with US/EU clients pays 2-3x local rates. Requires: Strong Linux, one cloud (AWS or Azure) certification, Kubernetes, one IaC tool (Terraform).

How to land it: Get AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate — hiring managers filter on it. Build a homelab, share your setup on LinkedIn.

Reality check for 2026

Remote-first is where the real money is. A mid-level Pakistani engineer working remotely for a US Series-B startup can earn 15-25 lakh PKR/month — 3-4x the local top-of-band. Fluency in English and being timezone-flexible are the two skills that unlock this.

Government jobs pay less but win on stability and benefits. BPS-19/20 officers earn 200-400k basic with pension, housing, and healthcare that private jobs rarely match. See our government jobs vs. private sector guide for a detailed comparison.

Location matters less than it used to. Islamabad tech firms increasingly pay Karachi-level salaries to retain talent as remote-work competition heats up.
